Today was... different than I expected. Today I was supposed to go to MOPS and then leave early to catch Ella running the "Maverik Mile" the school fundraiser. Instead I ended up in the ER/hospital for 12 hours.
It all started Yesterday at school when I arrived to do AR testing for her class. As soon as I walked in to the room she ran over and said her tummy hurt. Her teacher said she had started complaining a few min before I got there. We sent her to the school nurse but with no other symptoms the nurse gave her the choice to stay or go home with me and she chose to stay at school. When she got home from school she was so tired and her tummy still hurt so I canceled her after-school activities and kept her home. She refused her afternoon snack and dinner and at bedtime she was still feeling Ill, but no other symptoms so we sent her to bed. I thought she might have a stomach bug or constipation or something. Today she woke up just before my alarm went off to get her up for school and she said her tummy felt even worse than yesterday. She felt a little hot so I took her temp and she had a fever of 101. I became a little more concerned when she started howling on the bed and saying it hurt so so so so so bad and then the vomiting started. I knew it was more than just a tummy ache then so I called the nurse hotline to get a professionals opinion.
The nurse said based on her symptoms she possibly had appendicitis and to take her to the ER and get her seen soon. I put in a call to her Ped while I got her and Wes ready to go and they had the same advice, take her to the ER. Mom was kind enough to take for the Day and I called Jon and asked him to come home so he could be here if she needed surgery. After getting checked in she was evaluated and the ER dr suspected the same thing and ordered urine and blood tests, an X-ray, Ultrasound and Cat scan. She was given Zofran to stop the vomiting, an antibiotic in case the Appendix had ruptured, morphine for the pain and saline to get her hydrated. After her Ultrasound they brought in the contrast for her to drink for the CAT scan but before she had had more than a few sips they came back and said the appendix was very clearly ruptured on the Ultrasound and they didn't need the scan after all.
Then it was prep time for surgery and several hours later she was sent in to be sliced up. The surgery went great, and the rupture was much smaller than they thought so she may only have to stay in the hospital 3-4 days instead of 5+. As long as she doesn't get an abscess or infection she should be just fine.
Tonight she wanted her Daddy to stay with her so he will be spending the night at the hospital while I stay her and try to get some rest. It is so hard to see my baby all sick and stuff. I can't sleep because I am so jittery from the whole day of adrenalin and being strong so she won't be scared. Now I can be worried and scared since I am alone tonight.
