Today was an amazing day. We had to get up SUPER early to get to our sting ray excursion. The boat docked at 7am and we had to be at the meeting point at 7:45 so we were up at 6, and in the line for the tender boats at 6:30. We managed to get on the first tender boat, but the ship was late to dock so we just barely made the meeting time.
With all our rushing about, we still had to wait because the other people going on the tour were late. Once everyone was finally there, captain Mario put us all on buses to the Cayman island yacht club. Where we boarded the boat the "Big John". The boat was very nice, we started out on the very front of the boat and we enjoyed the breeze and the view as Mario took us to Star Fish Point.
It is a tiny island that is surrounded by a beautiful white sand beach and is populated by giant red and orange starfish. The water was waist deep and we got to walk around and touch and pick up the stars. They were so beautiful!
After a while there we got back on the boat and headed to coral castle, a small coral reef where we snorkeled for about 45 min. There were beautiful corals and brightly colored fish. The sea was pretty rough so it took a lot of energy to swim around. We weren't allowed to touch or pick up anything which was sad since we saw some great conchs on the bottom.
Then it was back on the boat to head to "sting-ray city". Our first mate is known as the "sting-ray whisperer" and he knows all the rays and has even named them. A sting ray named "kisses" came right up to him and we all got to "hold" and kiss her for pictures. The ray were HUGE and so soft to touch. They just swam all around us. Once everyone got pictures, it was time to feed them some squid. Once the food came out, we were swarmed with rays, climbing all over us. It was SO COOL. We stayed there about 45 min then it was time to head back to the port.
The boat ride back we sat on the top deck of the boat. It started raining on the way back so we got some of the salt washed off us. Back on land, it was a short bus ride back to port where we had enough time to do some shopping and have some civiche. We couldn't find a place serving conch, so we had Wahoo civiche.
Then we caught on of the last tender boats back. Then we all ran to our cabins for showers and dry clothes! After we were all clean, we headed up to the trivia lounge to play sushi-go! and do movie theme trivia. We didn't win, but we had fun anyway. We decided to go see the holiday show, which was pretty lame, but also cute when the kids on the ship joined the show to sing and dance. After the show it was finally dinner time! We got our regular table again and Ivan and Martin and Chanti were fab as always.
Then we ended our night by going to the outdoors movie and watched Avengers- age of ultron. We were all so tired from our day in the sun that we decided to turn in early so we would be ready for Cozumel tomorrow.
