Day 2 at orange beach, zoo and beach!

Today was Jon's full day of meetings, so James and I got to head off on our own to explore.  I had seen online that there was a small zoo nearby so we went to check it out.  It was very small, and I thought the cages seemed too little/homemade  but they were clean and seemed to be well cared for.  We watched an animal show, where we saw a kookaburra, ferret, snake, o'possum,  tortoise and a lynx.  After the show, we fed some of the barnyard type animals and walked through the aviary.  James really liked all the birds.  But his favorite was the giant tortoises.  He has really liked "turtles" ever since we went to the harmony safari park and he got to feed the giant tortoises there.  He even chose a little turtle stuffed doll as his favorite dolly and plays with it all the time at home.   At this zoo, he kept trying to climb into the tortoise pen, and made us stay a long time watching them.  It was funny, 'cause turtles have got to be one of the least interesting animals to sit and watch, but he loved it!  After I drug him away from the "turtles"  I paid for us to get to go in and pet the 2 toed sloth. It was so cool!  There were 2 sloths, a girl, Cynthia, and a boy, Sid.  Sid was feeling grumpy today, so he sat in the corner and took a nap, but Cynthia was climbing all over the cage, it was so cool to see her dangle from the walls and ceiling!  The handler also let us feed Cynthia some veggies.  James loved that part.  The Sloths weren't soft at all, the fur was very rough and thick, but it was so cool to pet and feed them.  After the sloths, James insisted on seeing the "turtles" again, so we watched them for a bit them we paid to play with the lemurs!  I love lemurs!  We had to wait our turn, and while we waited Jamie had a grand time feeding the animal food to some ducks.  He would grab a piece from me, run over to the ducks, throw it to them, watch them eat it, then laugh and run back for another piece.  When it was our turn for the Lemurs we went in with a group of young girls and sat down.  The Lemurs ran all over the pen and we got to touch them.  They were so very very soft!!  The handler put 2 of the lemurs right on Jamie's lap, he kept calling them Cats.  It was so neat to get to hold and pet the lemurs.  After that experience, it was almost nap time and James was D.O.N.E. with the zoo.  So I put him in the stroller and we quickly finished the zoo loop.  We zoomed past the tigers and lions and stuff, but when James saw another set of turtles he insisted we stop and check them out.  Seriously, you should hear him say "Turtle" it is so cute!  Once we left the zoo, we picked up some lunch for Jon and ourselves and headed back to the hotel for a little nap.  Jon was late coming back from his meeting for lunch, so James was asleep by the time he got to the room.  We ate our lunch and then James slept while I read a book.  It was such a nice quiet afternoon.  So Relaxing.  When James got up at 4, we decided to head over to the beach for a bit.  James and I sat at the edge of the surf and played in the sand for a long time, then we went back to the pool and swam for a bit.  We had been gone for a while, and Jon's meeting was supposed to end at 5, so we asked someone the time.  It turned out to be 5:20, so we got out and headed back to the room to see if Jon was waiting for us there.  He wasn't so we dried off and changed and hung out until he got there around 6:20.  Their meeting had gone way over, so we had to change our evening plans.  We went out and had a nice seafood dinner, and then right back home for bed since we weren't' done till after 8pm!  It was a wonderful second day at the beach!
