Our annual pass to the Botanical Gardens expires in 3 days and they just opened an exhibit of Lego structures so we decided for Family Home Evening we would go check out the exhibit before we lost our chance. We had a little picnic while we were there and spend a nice evening walking around the park. The evening was cut a little short, since the Gardens closed early, but we managed to have fun anyway!
Today was the day of Elinor's birthday party. She chose Lego Movie for her theme so we had some great party games planned. I also made my first ice cream cake, which turned out fantastic! We started the party with some Lego bingo. Once all the guests arrived, we started our scavenger hunt for the piece of resistance. I had made lots of word puzzels for the kids, unfortunately, I think they might have been too hard. But the kids managed to complete the quest and get the piece of resistance. Our next activity was to see how well the kids could follow directions. I had two identical sets of Lego's and divided the kids into two teams and they had to build the sets as fast as they could. This was like Emmet at the beginning of the movie, where he followed the directions. For the next game, which was the kids favorite, I gave the kids a giant bucket of lego's and they each built a car to race pinewood derby style. They did this for quite a long time before we did "Pin the piece of resistance on Emmett". We finished the party with pizza, presents and ice cream cake. I think all the kids had lots of fun, and I had lots of fun putting it all together!
My Boy is getting big! We went to Chick-fil-a today for lunch and James discovered that he is big enough to climb up the first two steps of the playground. He was very thrilled with his discovery. Also, isn't my baby so cute?
Elinor celebrated her birthday a second time today at Nana and Grandpa's house. They had presents and cake and her choice of dinner. Ella was very happy to get a second birthday!
