Today Jon and I decided to do a project that has been on our list for quite a while. I wanted to make Wesley a special big bed. I was inspired by a picture I saw online of a bed that was partial suspended from the ceiling. We decided to put the bed partially in the closet, using the doorframe and back wall as supports. Since Wes is a boy he doesn't need any full length hanging space, and we can install a rod under the bed so when he is older he can have a half length rod for his clothes. By suspending his bed, he can have all the floor space in his room for playing! One side of the rest of the closet, we made a shelf with a place for all his special things, the other side is open, and we will be putting the ladder there as a "secret entrance" Because of the extra trouble of finding and using ceiling joists to hang the end of the bed, and the ceiling fan being in the way Jon came up with a great idea to do the suspension more like a draw bridge, so it is supported by the wall instead. I am so excited with how it came out! Wes is over the moon about his new big boy bed. Jon did an amazing job with all the measurements and building. I did the conceptualizing and the shopping. all in all it only cost about $65, so not bad! It took us about 1/2 the day to build. I took the opportunity of the upheaval to help Wesley go through his toys and pack u some that he is too old for and we rearranged his whole room. There is so much more space to play now! i also built him a lego sorter to make it easier for him to play and keep things out of Jamie's reach. Now we just have to buy the mattress and his new bedroom is done!
